Youth on Course

Golf Saskatchewan and Golf Canada are proud to help provide youth with access to affordable golf through our partnership with Youth on Course.

Golf teaches important social, mental, and physical skills and each round is filled with learning potential. Whether it’s early morning, after school or twilight hours, participating courses offer up blocks of tee times throughout the week for Youth on Course members to play for $5 or less.

We subsidize the cost of our members’ rounds to keep the price tag affordable, sending more families through our partner courses’ doors.

PARTICIPATING CLUBS

Looking to offer Youth on Course at your facility?

For individual courses looking to join Youth on Course’s network, general managers and head professionals can complete an online interest form. In return, facilities will receive subsidies for each round played at $5 or less during one of the designated times for Youth on Course members.

Fueling the golf industry, Youth on Course subsidizes rounds for members and puts money back into provincial golf associations and individual courses. The organization’s structure helps golf courses fill typically unused tee times and garner additional revenue with more than 40% of members playing with paying adults.

First Tee – Prairies

Golf Saskatchewan proudly supports First Tee – Prairies, Golf Canada’s youth development program that provides children with life-enhancing experiences through golf. First Tee – Prairies offers accessible and inclusive programming at golf courses, schools, and community centres with unique curriculum, equipment, and training requirements for each. Together, we are introducing more children to golf, especially those who otherwise likely would not have the opportunity.

First Tee – Prairies launched in 2023 and has positively impacted over 9,000 children through golf. To learn more about becoming a First Tee program location, coach, or donor, visit www.firstteeprairies.ca or contact firstteeprairies@golfcanada.ca

Golf Canada partnered with First Tee to launch First Tee – Canada in 2021 and now operates programming in every province. The first First Tee program in Saskatchewan was started at Wildwood Golf Course in Saskatoon. There are now 11 coaches providing programming at five courses between Saskatchewan and Manitoba as of June, 2024.

First Tee began in the U.S. in 1997 and has since expanded to over 150 chapters across all 50 states and seven international networks, bettering the lives of over 15 million youth through golf.

Junior Skills Challenge

Junior Skills Challenge is an online and interactive program that focuses on developing the key golf skills of putting, chipping and driving. An online leaderboard allows site coordinators to upload players’ scores so they can track their improvement. Using the data, players are ranked nationally by age group, and by scores on the National Leaderboard. Top competitors nationally are invited to compete in the annual Junior Skills Challenge National Event.

In year’s past, Golf-in-Schools was a nationwide program delivering kits to schools across the province.
