Nearing mid-August, the Saskatchewan Order of Merit is winding down after a busy couple weeks.
Over the August long weekend two historic events were held.
Down in Estevan at TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club the FrameTech Classic was fittingly renamed the Amanda Minchin Classic (Story to follow).
Paige Wheeler was the winner in the women’s division with a 36 hole score of 175. The Estevan resident was six shots lower than Jesseca Brown and Roxanne Willerth.
Rick Hallberg of Weyburn is the senior men’s champion at the Classic, again.
The Golf Kenosee member shot an impressive 205 over three rounds, 18 strokes clear of Dave Lavoie in second. Bryan Dew was a shot behind Lavoie for third at 224.
Regina resident Mitch Matichuk claimed the men’s title on Saskatchewan Day.
The Member at the Royal Regina Golf Club posted rounds of 70, 68, and 70 for a six shot win over both Tyler Mryglod and Daryl Donovan.

Also over the holiday weekend was the playing of the Men’s Northern Championship at Cooke Municipal.
Greg Swenson battled through the field to win his second northern title.
He defeated Brad Phelps in the final. Prior to downing the Saskatoon golfer 3&2, Swenson beat Cole Jenkins, Kyle Wiebe, and Jordan Biggins on route to the championship.

The women’s OMT championship is still up in the air. Kim Walker of Regina has the lead over Alex Schmidt of Regina with the Moose Mountain Classic (Kenosee) and Ladies Lobstick Open and Matchplay.
The Moose Mountain Classic is the last event on both the men’s and senior men’s OMT. Jesse Gibson leads Connor Scissons by just over 300 points.
Hallberg has all but clinched another OMT win in the senior men’s category.
The junior schedule still has six events left.
