Odnokon back in familiar territory; North Battleford siblings with strong starts at juniors

Reigning Saskatchewan under-19 and under-17 women’s champion Grace Odnokon has started well in the defense of her championships after day one of the provincial juniors.

The 16-year-old Saskatoon resident carded an opening round 3-over par 75 at The Legends Golf Club in Warman on Tuesday, she has a one shot lead over fellow Saskatonian Tina Liu.

Last year’s under-15 champion Yoyo Zhu is third at 6-over par.

In the under-15 category this year North Battleford’s Natalie Maunula has the lead after the first of three rounds in Warman.

Maunula, 14, is four shots ahead of Ayxa Melsted of Wynyard and seven shots ahead of Clara Zhang of Saskatoon. Maunula is at 14-over par.

The women’s field teed off early on day one of the three day champions, they will get the afternoon tee times on Wednesday.

Shae Maunula, also of North Battleford shot the lowest round of the day going 4-under par, 68 in the first round.

He finds himself a shot ahead of reigning under-19 and under-17 champion Aricin Franklin and Hudson Diederichs, both of Saskatoon as they sit at 3-under par.

2024 champion Ryan Mosher, Lucas Sturgeon, and Wyatt Nelson are tied for fourth at 2-under par.

Under-15 Category

The tightest category after 18 of 54 holes is the men’s under-15 division where two players are tied at 1-over par, 73.

Melville’s Keaton Kreklewich and Regina product Jun Lee each posted a 73 Tuesday to take a lead into round two.

Jace Munro of Swift Current is a shot back at 75.

Cohen Bridge of Saskatoon is the leader of the under-13 men’s age group after the opening round.

Bridge shot 4-over 75, good enough for a one shot lead over the defending under-13 chmpion Hudson Deibert of Regina.

Jackson Orr of Saskatoon sits third.

Tee times will begin again at 7 a.m. on Wednesday and continue until 3 p.m.
