New leader at Junior Women’s Championship; Cote continues to cruise in Swift Current

There is a new leader after moving day at the Saskatchewan Junior Women’s Championship in Swift Current.

Medicine Hat golfer Sarah Armstrong posted a 3-under par 69 on day two to overtake Regina’s Hallie Crozier for the lead going into Thursday’s final round.

Crozier, the first round leader followed her opening 74 with a 75 on Wednesday, Armstrong will take a five shot lead into the last round.

In the under-17 division Kyle’s Chloe Wills will take a 10 shot lead into the final 18 holes thanks to a tidy 78 during round two. Swift Current’s Niya Friesen sits in second place, Saskatoon golfer Sarah Henderson is in third.

The under-15 category the lead is just two for Calgary’s Justine Leon. She will take a couple shot lead into the last round over Saskatoon’s Grace Odnokon. Leon was three shots back after day one.

In the junior men’s championship Luke Cote seems poised to wrap his junior career with a win thanks to another spectacular 66 on Wednesday. The Regina native has posted front scores of 31 in both rounds leading to back-to-back 66’s and a 12 stroke lead.

Weyburn’s Darien Herlick retains his second place position while Carter Bell and Tommy Danielson of Saskatoon both climbed the leaderboard and sit tied for third at 1-over par. Herlick is even.

In the chase for the under-17 title Buena Vista product Elias Haukeness shot even par to push his way to the top of the leaderboard.

First round leader Dane Giebrecht of Warman is shot behind in second, Ryan Mosher of Saskatoon jumped five positions and sits at plus-6 alongside Aiden Walker of Regina.

The under-15 division is in for a good finish as the lead for Saskatoon’s Aricin Franklin is just one over Kai Kriekle of Regina going into the final 18 holes.

Ethan Hunter is third at 10-over par.

Austin Nesbitt of Pilot Butte will take the lead into final day of the under-13 division as he seeks his second straight win in the division.

Nesbitt leads Regina’s Jun Lee by seven shots and Tylan Wallin of Humboldt by 14.

The final round will begin at 7 a.m. Thursday at the Chinook Golf Course.

The Junior Junior for golfers 12 and under concluded on Wednesday. Eleven golfers took part in the Stableford scoring format event to get introduced to tournament golf. Pictures and the results will be featured on the Golf Saskatchewan website on Friday, July 7.
