For the sixth time, Saskatchewan golfers Brian Fitzpatrick and Kris Carley will use one of the longest days of the year to raise money for Kidsport Saskatchewan through golf.
The duo will play from dusk to dawn on June 18 at Carnduff Golf Club while raising money to help kids get into sports that may not have the financial means. Fitzpatrick said when he launched the first event in 2019 he pondered several charity organizations but something about Kidsport stood out to him.
“I thought about the Cancer Society, I hate that disease, my brother died of cancer, but not all funds raised through that organization go to the patients, I didn’t really like that,” Fitzpatrick said. “Sports, and golf have always been important to me and Kidsport has been amazing through all five of these we have done.”
They did take 2020 and 2021 off due to COVID-19 and returned with the fundraiser in 2022 up until next week’s event. Fitzpatrick can’t thank the organization enough for what they have done.
“It’s just been amazing, they provide shirts, balls, other stuff to assist us. I know how critical sports are to kids, yes junior golf was important to me as a kid, but all sports keep kids healthy and busy, we just want to try and help as many as we can,” Fitzpatrick added.
Fitzpatrick used to call Estevan home before relocating to Regina a few years ago, Carley is a lifelong Carnduff product in the southern region. Fitzpatrick said this year’s fundraiser will be in honour of Amanda Minchin, a huge ambassador for junior golf and other sports alike as well.
