Day one complete at Sask. Amateur Championships; southwest golfers take charge in first round

Chloe Wills of Kyle, Sask. leads the 2025 Amateur Women's Championship after round 1 in Humboldt.

It was a pair of southwest Saskatchewan players lead the amateur leaderboards after day one at the Humboldt Golf Club (HGC).

Chloe Wills of Kyle, Sask. opened the 54 hole championship with a 3-under par 70, four shots better than Ella Kozak of Yorkton.

Charmaine Hayden of Winnipeg sits third overall in the championship going into Wednesday’s middle round. Hayden, who plays out of Breezy Bend Golf Club in the Manitoba capital leads the Women’s Mid-Amateur (25+) Championship at 4-over par.

The women’s events will begin teeing off at 7 a.m. on day two.

In the men’s championships Corey Bailey of Swift Current had a fantastic round carding an 8-under 64 to lead the field of 115 amateurs and another 59 in the mid-amateur (25+) category.

Lucas Sturgeon of Saskatoon sits a shot behind Bailey for the amateur lead, the 15-year-old carded a 7-under par 65. Jack Maharaj of Saskatoon sits third at 5-under 67.

Regina veteran Shawn McNall is tied for fourth overall with Saskatoon product Tommy Danielson at 4-under par 68. McNall is second in the over-25 mid-amateur category.

The men’s championships will resume at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

The women’s championships will conclude on Thursday, the men’s mid-amateur title will also be handed out Thursday.

The final round of the amateur men’s event will be Friday.
