The 2023 Saskatchewan Junior Championships wrapped up on Thursday at Swift Current’s Chinook Golf Course.
It was Luke Cote’s week in speedy creek as the 18-year-old dominated the field and won the under-19 championship by 13 strokes. The Royal Regina Golf Club player shot 203 over 54 holes, the lowest score ever in the 97 year history of the event and the widest margin of victory (13 strokes) since 1954.
In the girls under-19 category Medicine Hat’s Sarah Armstrong won the title with a three day score of 219, three better than Hallie Crozier of Regina.
Chloe Wills of Kyle added another championship to her resume taking the under-17 title a year after winning the under-15 championship.
The under-15 division was won by Calgary’s Justine Leon with a score of 238, nine ahead of Saskatoon’s Grace Odnokon.
In the junior men’s under-17 race it was Warman’s Dane Giesbrecht taking the title with a 54-hole score of 225, one lower than Saskatoon’s Ryan Mosher. Giesbrecht receives a national championship spot, Mosher will be the alternate.
In the under-15 category Saskatoon golfer Aricin Franklin won the division by five strokes over Kai Kreikle of Regina.
In the under-13 category, the lone repeat winner of the event was Pilot Butte golfer Austin Nesbitt who won by 10 shots over Regina’s Jun Lee.
