The college fall golf season is busy with upwards of 30 Saskatchewan student-athletes competing across the United States and Canada.
Chloe Wills has her first collegiate top five finish. The Kyle, Saskatchewan resident and the Drury Panthers were in Smithville, Missouri on Sept. 21 and 22 for the Kansas City Cup at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex. She posted scores of 74, 78, and 77 to tie for fourth. The Panthers also placed fourth in the team standings.
Drury is scheduled to complete in the Grace Shin Invitational at the Golf Club of Edmond in Oklahoma starting Oct. 5.
Yorkon’s Ella Kozak has come back from an injury to begin her fall season with the University of Idaho Vandals. On Sept. 21 and 22 Kozak was in Spokane, Washington at the Kalispel Golf and Country Club for the Kalispel Invitational. She opened with a 71 before carding back-to-back 77’s to place tied for 32nd.
The Vandals were 10th in the team category. Next up is the Pat Lesser Harbottle in Lakewood, Washington at Tacoma Golf and Country Club on Oct. 5 and 6.
Erika Davis’ college career is underway at Waldorf University. The Saskatoon resident played the NIACC Fall Invitational on Sept. 10 in Mason City, Iowa at the Legacy at the 19 Golf Course. Davis shot 98 and placed tied for 20th. The Warriors were fourth as a team.
From Iowa the team travelled to Monmouth, Illinois for the two-day Fighting Scot Classic at Gibson Woods Golf Course on Sept. 12 and 13. Davis carded rounds of 90 and 105. She was 24th overall while Waldorf was fourth once again.
Davis’ busy September continued Sept. 19 and 20 at the Buena Vista Invitational at the Buena Vista University Golf Course at Lake Creek in Storm Lake, Iowa. She posted rounds of 103 and 101 for a finish of 43rd. The team was eighth.
Next was the Warriors home event, the Waldorf Fall invite on Sept. 27 at Wedgewood Cove Golf Course in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Davis shot 103 and placed 19th. The team was third. The next day the Warriors hosted the Fall Challenge at the Rice Lake Golf and Country Club in Lake Mills, Iowa. The team was fourth with the help of Davis who signed for a round of 91, good enough for a tie for 20th overall.
Waldorf’s next event is the Hawkeye Invitational starting Oct. 2.
Tayla Perry was back on the course in Lake City, Minnesota for the Jewel Invitational at the Jewel Golf Club on Sept. 21 and 22. The Regina resident competed as an individual for Minnesota State University Mankato (MSUM). She shot 82 and 89 to place tied for 42nd. Her Maverick teammates tied for fourth.
The UNK Central Region Preview at Meadowlark Hills Golf Course in Kearney, Nebraska on Oct. 11 to 13 is next for MSUM.
Adam Husli of Regina has begun his final fall season with the University of Providence Argos in Great Falls, Montana. Husli was in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota on Sept. 21 and 22 for the Mayville Fall Invite at Wildflower Golf Course. He signed for rounds of 84, 76, and 83 leaving him tied for 32nd place. The Argos as a team were fourth overall in the team category.
Next up is the Fighting Saints Open in Helena, Montana at the Bill Roberts Golf Course on Oct. 5 and 6.
Luke Cote has another strong result following his first collegiate win at Southern Arkansas University (SAU). The Muleriders were in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Sept. 21 and 22 for the NSU Classic at Page Belcher Golf Course. Cote shot rounds of 67, 69, and 74 with 15 birdies over 54 holes. The Regina product tied for fourth overall.
Saskatoon’s Carter Bell played as an individual during the event, he shot 72, 75, and 79. The Riverside Country Club member placed in a tie for 57th.
SAU was fourth overall. The Muleriders next tournament is the Newman Invitational in Andover, Kansas at the Terradyne Country Club starting Oct. 12.
A pair of Saskatchewan players were in Sunrise, Arizona on Sept. 28 and 29 competing in the OUAZ Invitational at Sterling Grove Golf and Country Club. Cole Taylor of Nipawin and the Park University Bucs were in the field. Taylor shot 80, 76, and 78 to land in 34th place.
The Bucs were eighth overall.
Max Regier of Saskatoon was also in the event competing for the University of Victoria. Regier signed for rounds of 77, 85, and 84 leaving him in a tie for 56th place. The Vikes were seventh place, just ahead of Park.
Taylor’s next action is the Battle in the Desert in Hobbs, New Mexico at Rockwind Community Links Golf Course on Oct. 4 and 5. Regier and the Vikes will head to Lethbridge for the Canada West Championships starting Oct. 4 at Paradise Canyon Golf Resort.
Saskatoon native Justin Miller has had a strong start to his fall season at his new school, Tabor College. On Sept. 21 and 22 the Blue Jays were in York, Nebraska for the Panther Fall Invite at the York Country Club. Miller shot 72, 79, and 78, good enough for a top 10 finish. Tabor was fourth out of nine colleges.
The team then hit the highway to Hesston, Kansas for the Bethel Fall Invite on Sept. 28 and 29. Miller tied for 16th at 224 with rounds of 71, 79, and 74. The Blue Jays tied for sixth place in a 13 school field.
The next event for Tabor is the Ottawa Braves Invitational in Lawrence, Kansas on Oct. 12 and 13.
The Saskatchewan duo of Porter Barnett (Carlyle) and Cam Schwab (Maple Creek) and the Minot State University (MSU) Beavers were in action on Sept. 21 and 22 for the Jewel Invitational at the Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, Minnesota. Barnett tied for 36 after two rounds of 76. Schwab placed tied for 62nd at 20-over par with rounds of 86 and 78.
The Beavers placed seventh out of a dozen schools. MSU travelled to Bismarck, North Dakota for the Marauders Classic on the 28th and 29th of September at Hawktree Golf Course. Barnett carded rounds of 80 and 83, he was 53rd. Schwab signed for rounds of 85 and 89, he was tied for 70th.
The Beavers were eighth in the team competition.
The Battle of the North awaits MSU in Minot, North Dakota at Beowulf Golf Club on Oct. 4 and 5.
Ben Staines of Saskatoon took part in a one day event with the Mount Aloysius Mounties in Grove City, Pennsylvania on Sept. 28 at the Grove City Country Club. He tied for 60th with an 83.
The Mounties ‘B’ team was 14th out of 18 schools at the event. Mount Aloysius will travel to Johnstown, Pennsylvania for the Saint Francis Invitational on Oct. 5 and 6 at the Sunnehanna Country Club.
The Waldorf Warriors men’s squad had a couple events in September with Anthony Pesenti of Saskatoon taking part. On Sept. 19 at 20 in Storm Lake, Iowa at the Buena Vista Invitational Pesenti was completing as an individual. He tied for 53rd with scores of 87 and 82.
Pesenti’s teammates placed eighth.
Waldorf then hosted a pair of one day events on Sept. 27 and 28. Playing an individual again at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club in Albert Lea, Minnesota Pesenti shot 83 tying for 46th.
The team was fourth. The next day in Lake Mills, Iowa at the Rice Lake Golf and Country Club at the Waldorf Invite Pesenti posted a solid 74 and tied for 15th place in the field of 50-plus competitors.
The Central Invitational in Pella, Iowa is next for Waldorf on Oct. 5 and 6.
Ryan Mosher’s Div. 1 career is off to a busy start. The Saskatoon product was in Annapolis, Maryland alongside his Holy Cross teammates competing at the Goat Invitational at U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club. The Riverside Country Club member carded rounds of 75, 75, and 73. He was tied for 37th. The Crusaders placed fifth out of 15 colleges.
Next up was the UConn Invitational played at Greathorse Country Club in Hampden, Massachusetts on Sept. 27 and 28. Holy Cross was seventh out of 14 teams in the 54-hole event, that was shortened to two rounds from three. Mosher shot 80 and 76 to tie for 59th.
The Crusaders will make their way to Ijamsville, Maryland for the Testudo Cup on Oct. 5 and 6 at P.B. Dye Golf Club.
The fall season continued for Saskatoon teammates Jack Maharaj and Griffin Blanch and the Highland Community College Cougars with two more events in September.
On the 21 and 22 they were in Moline, Illinois at Short Hills Country Club for the Duane Chanay Invite. Blanch was playing as an individual, he fired rounds of 81, 76, and 80, he was tied for 71st.
Maharaj posted rounds of 79, 78, and 81, that left him tied for 74th. The Cougars tied for seventh in the team event.
Fellow Saskatoon Golf and Country Club member Brady Guenther was also in the field playing for Parkland Community College. Guenther led the team at 8-over par thanks to rounds of 74, 76, and 74. The Cobras were 10th overall.
On Sept. 28 and 29 in Byron, Illinois at Prairieview Golf Course Maharaj put together a top five performance for Highland at the Arrowhead Conference Tournament. He signed for rounds of 76, 72, and 76 to place fourth overall while helping the Cougars win their fourth event of the season.
Blanch shot 80, 82, and 85 for 24th place finish.
Next up is the Battle of the Mississippi in Coal Valley, Illinois at Oakwood Country Club starting Oct. 5.
From the Chaney Invite Guenther and the Cobras travelled to Effingham, Illinois for the MWAC Conference Championship on Sept. 28. Guenther shot 78 and 83 in the one day event for a 22nd place finish. Parkland was sixth in the team event.
The Cobras will join Highland in Coal Valley on Oct. 5 for their next event.
