Wills win first Sask. am; Bailey battles back to win men’s mid-am
A pair of southwest Saskatchewan golfers are Saskatchewan champions.
Chloe Wills of Kyle, Sask. is the 2025 Amateur Women’s champion edging 2021 champion Ella Kozak of Yorkton by one shot Thursday at the Humboldt Golf Club (HGC).
Wills, 17, finished 1-under par over 54 holes to claim her first amateur win to go along with an under-15 and undr-17 championship.

Behind Kozak was Winnipeg’s Charmaine Hayden, she finished 10-over par to claim third place, but the Breezy Bend Golf Club member won the Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship.
Holly Knudsen of Shamrock, Sask. was second, Carla Odnokon of Saskatoon rounded out the podium in the 25-and-over division.

Corey Bailey of Swift Current is the 2025 Saskatchewan Men’s Mid-Amateur champion after going toe-to-toe with Humboldt’s Paul Raycroft over 54 holes at the HGC.
Bailey opened with an 8-under 64 on day one, Raycroft answered with the same number in the second round, but Bailey’s 2-over par 74 on Thursday in the final round was enough to beat the hometown player by two shots.
Mitch Matichuk of Regina placed third in the mid-amateur (25+) event at 3-under par.
The Saskatchewan Amateur Men’s Championship will conclude on Friday. The cut line was survived by 22 players. Tee times will begin at 7 a.m. with the final group teeing off at 8:10 a.m.
Regina’s Luke Cote shot the round of the day, 7-under 65 to jump into the lead over Bailey. Carter Bell of Saskatoon sits in third and play in the final group.

Wills retains lead in Women’s Amateur; Raycroft goes low to take men’s lead on home course
Hometown product Paul Raycroft gave Humboldt something to talk about after stroking an 8-under 64 in round two of the Saskatchewan Men’s Amateur Championship Wednesday.
Being played at his home course, the Humboldt Golf Club, Raycroft jumped nine spots up the leaderboard overtaking day one leader Corey Bailey by a shot. Bailey also carded a 64 on the first day of the championships. The Swift Current product shot 1-under 71 on Wednesday to fend off three other players tied for third overall.
Raycroft leads both the amateur and mid-amateur championships at 10-under par, Bailey is at 9-under while Lucas Sturgeon, Alex Swinnerton, and Luke Cote are knotted at 5-under par going into round three Thursday.
Mitch Matichuk of Regina is third in the mid-amateur category, which is for players 25 years of age and older. He is at 2-under par.
The mid-amateur will conclude Thursday after 54 holes. The men’s amateur title will be decided after the fourth round on Friday. The top 20 players and ties will move on to round four.

In the Women’s Amateur Championships Chloe Wills of Kyle, Sask. remains in the lead through two of three rounds, but Ella Kozak of Yorkton has closed the gap from four shots to two going into Thursday’s third and final round at the Humboldt Golf Club.
Wills opened the event with a 3-under par 70 Tuesday, in the second round she posted a 1-over 73, Kozak shot 74 and 72 over the first two rounds.
Mid-Amateur Women’s leader Charmaine Hayden of Winnipeg is third in the amateur division.
Holly Knudsen of Chaplin, Sask. and Tayla Parry of Regina are tied for fourth overall in the amateur event 11 shots back of the lead. Hayden is at 8-over par through 36 of 54 holes.
Both women’s championships will conclude Thursday afternoon as well.
Tee times begin again at 7 a.m. on Thursday.

Day one complete at Sask. Amateur Championships; southwest golfers take charge in first round
It was a pair of southwest Saskatchewan players lead the amateur leaderboards after day one at the Humboldt Golf Club (HGC).
Chloe Wills of Kyle, Sask. opened the 54 hole championship with a 3-under par 70, four shots better than Ella Kozak of Yorkton.

Charmaine Hayden of Winnipeg sits third overall in the championship going into Wednesday’s middle round. Hayden, who plays out of Breezy Bend Golf Club in the Manitoba capital leads the Women’s Mid-Amateur (25+) Championship at 4-over par.
The women’s events will begin teeing off at 7 a.m. on day two.

In the men’s championships Corey Bailey of Swift Current had a fantastic round carding an 8-under 64 to lead the field of 115 amateurs and another 59 in the mid-amateur (25+) category.
Lucas Sturgeon of Saskatoon sits a shot behind Bailey for the amateur lead, the 15-year-old carded a 7-under par 65. Jack Maharaj of Saskatoon sits third at 5-under 67.
Regina veteran Shawn McNall is tied for fourth overall with Saskatoon product Tommy Danielson at 4-under par 68. McNall is second in the over-25 mid-amateur category.
The men’s championships will resume at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
The women’s championships will conclude on Thursday, the men’s mid-amateur title will also be handed out Thursday.
The final round of the amateur men’s event will be Friday.

Amateur Championships tee off in Humboldt
The largest tournament field of the season is in Humboldt this week for the Saskatchewan Amateur Championships starting Tuesday at the Humboldt Golf Club (HGC).
The Women’s Amateur Championship was hosted by the HGC in 2014, the men’s event has never been played in Humboldt in it’s 114 year history.
Almost 150 players are registered through the amateurs and mid-amateurs (25 and over). Four events are involved, with the amateurs and mid-amateurs being played alongside each other.
The Women’s Championships and Men’s Mid-Amateur will be played for three days over 54 holes, the men’s amateur championship will have a cut after day three and conclude on Friday after 72 holes.
HGC General Manager Corey Schweitzer said the build up to the tournaments has been fantastic and the club is ready to host the marquee events.
“Ever since players have started to show up weeks ago for a round or today during the practice round, there has been nothing but praise for the course,” he said. “The greens are amazing, possibly best ever in the history of the club. The staff has been incredible from Glenn (Wildeman, superintendent) down. We are very excited to host this event.”
Tee times will begin at 7 a.m. on Tuesday for round one. The men will tee off first on day one. Reigning amateur champion Kye Fisher of Leduc, Alta. will be the first player to hit. Defending mid-amateur champion Danny Klughart of Prince Albert will start at 7:20 a.m.
Ella Kozak of Yorkton won the women’s amateur in 2021 and the junior championship last year, she will be the first shot of the women’s championship at 2:20 p.m. Sela Ogada of Calgary won the amateur championship last year, she is not in the field. Carla Odnokon won the mid-amateur last year, she will tee off at 2:30 p.m.
The draws will be flipped for day two with the women teeing off first thing in the morning on Wednesday.

Odnokon and Franklin claim overall junior championships
Grace Odnokon and Aricin Franklin are on top of the province in junior golf after claiming the overall championships in Lloydminster on Thursday.
Odnokon, 15, shot 22-over par 238 to win the overall championship by six shots over Regina’s Tayla Perry. Odnokon also claimed the under-17 championship.
The under-15 women’s champion was Yoyo Zhu of Saskatoon. The 14-year-old was sixth overall as well with a 54-hole score of 41-over par 257.

In the junior men’s championships Aricin Franklin avoided heartbreak this year and won the championship by two strokes over Ethan Hunter. Last year’s winner Ryan Mosher was third overall.
In the under-15 men’s category Austin Nesbitt of Pilot Butte battled from behind to overtake Melville golfer Keaton Kreklewich and win the division by a stroke. Nesbitt shot 9-over par 225 through three rounds at the Lloydminster Golf and Curling Centre.

Hudson Deibert of Regina claimed the under-13 men’s division with a 54-hole score of 29-over par 244.

New leaders in overall championships at Sask. juniors
There was plenty of changes on the leaderboards in almost all the age groups at the 2025 Saskatchewan Junior Championships in Lloydminster.
Aricin Franklin of Saskatoon is the new leader in the under-19 and under-17 age divisions after shooting 2-under par 70 on Wednesday at the Lloydminster Golf and Curling Centre. One of only two players to shoot under par in round two (Matty Schmiess of Swift Current is the other) the 16-year-old jumped over Ryan Mosher and Ethan Hunter for the overall championship, both Mosher and Hunter shot 70 in Tuesday’s opening round. Mosher carded a 3-over par 75, Hunter shot 4-over par 76 and now sits third going into Thursday’s championship round.

There is a new leader in the under-15 men’s age category.
Keaton Kreklewich of Melville is now on top after his age group best 74 in round two. First round leader Austin Nesbitt is still within striking distance two shots back. The Pilot Butte product followed a 75 on day one with a 7-over par 79 on Wednesday. Thomas Pilon of Saskatoon is in third place going into the final round, he’s 13-over par.
There are two under-13 players in the boys event, Hudson Deibert will take a five shot lead into the final round over Cohen Bridge of Saskatoon.
The talented young duo will start the final round at 7 a.m. on Thursday.

Grace Odnokon of Saskatoon stole the show in the Junior Women’s Championship on Wednesday.
The 15-year-old shot an impressive 3-over par 75 in round two putting herself into a two shot lead going into the final 18 holes in Lloydminster.
Odnokon leads the under-17 age division as well, she’s 11 shots up on Yoyo Zhu and Yuna Lee.

Zhu is the under-15 leader, the only division to not see a lead change. Alyxa Melsted of Wynyard remains in second in the division.
As mentioned, the under-13 pair will tee off first on Thursday. The under-15 men’s division will begin tee times at 7:10 a.m.
The final round of the 75th Junior Women’s Championship will begin with the first group at 11:10 a.m. The final group featuring Odnokon, Wills, and Tayla Perry tee off 12 p.m.
The final seven groups of junior men chasing the under-19 championship will begin teeing off at 12:10 p.m.
The last group with Franklin, Mosher, and Hunter will start their quest for a junior title in the 99th year of the event at 1:10 p.m.

Wills sets pace at Junior Women’s Championship; Hunter hangs with defending champion in Junior Men’s Championships

In the race for the junior women’s overall championship Chloe Wills of Kyle, Sask. is on top of the leaderboard with an opening round of 8-over par, 80 on Tuesday. The reigning under-17 Saskatchewan champion has a one stroke lead on Regina’s Yuna Lee who opened the 54-hole event with a 9-over par, 81.

Lee is the leader of the under-17 age group, Grace Odnokon of Saskatoon sits second in the age group after an opening round of 83, Odnokon is tied for third overall with Sarah Henderson, another Saskatoon golfer.

In the under-15 women’s age category Yoyo Zhu of Saskatoon has the lead after the first of three rounds. Zhu shot 83 in round one Tuesday, she’s eight strokes ahead of Alyxa Melsted of Wynyard.
Round two of the Junior Women’s Championships will begin at 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday.

In the Junior Men’s Championship there is a tie at the top of the leaderboard at 2-under par.
Defending champion Ryan Mosher of Saskatoon is deadlocked with Casa Rio, Sask. player Ethan Hunter. Both shot 2-under par 70 on the opening day of the 99th edition of the junior men’s tournament.
Aricin Franklin of Saskatoon and Prince Albert junior Wyatt Nelson each shot 1-over par 73, they are tied for third overall.
Hunter leads the under-17 age category, Franklin and Nelson are tied for second in the group.

The under-15 age group is led by Austin Nesbitt of Pilot Butte. He shot 3-over par 75 giving himself a three stroke cushion on Melville’s Keaton Kreklewich, he’s at 78.
In third is Humboldt junior Tylan Wallin at 7-over 79.

Two players are competing in the under-13 men’s category, Cohen Bridge of Saskatoon has a one shot lead on Regina’s Hudson Deibert. Bridge shot 86, Deibert fired an 87.
Round two of the Men’s Junior Championships will begin at 7:20 a.m. on Wednesday.

Junior Championships tee of Tuesday in Lloydminster
The 2025 Saskatchewan Junior Golf Championships begin Tuesday at the Lloydminster Golf and Curling Centre (LGCC).
This is the first time since 2008 the course has played host to the championships, 110 players are registered.
The overall under-19 champions will receive exemption into the Canadian junior championships, plus several other age divisions will be contented all the way to under-12.
Manager of Golf Operations Marty Wheaton is a huge supporter of junior golf and is excited to welcome the players.
“This is a fantastic week for junior golf and golf in general here at the LGCC.,” Wheaton said.
“We have hosted many junior events such as the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour and last year’s Saskatchewan Summer Games, but this event is the top players of all age groups. We are ecstatic to host them.”
Tee times will begin with the Junior Women’s Championships at 7 a.m. The Junior Boys Championships will start at 8 a.m.
Ella Kozak of Yorkton is the reigning junior women’s champion, she aged out last summer.
Defending junior men’s title holder Ryan Mosher is in the field.
The event will conclude, weather pending, on Thursday afternoon.

Gibson back in golf; and on leaderboards
What a week it’s been for Jesse Gibson on the golf course.
Gibson, 33, won the Reliance Gregg’s Central Amateur Championship in late June. Sunday he tied for second at the Concorde Group Corp Saskatoon Men’s Open Golf Championship while taking the top amateur prize. PGA Professional Phil Jonas won the event hosted at Riverside Country Club (RCC) and Holiday Park Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday.
Gibson was a star junior player in Saskatchewan, attended a Division 1 school in the NCAA before moving to a Division 2 program. Following that he returned to Saskatoon and left golf behind.
In 2024 he returned to the competitive circuit at the Saskatchewan Amateur Championships, he missed the amateur cut by five shots, his 224 at the Royal Regina Golf Club would have had him inside the top 22 in the Mid-Am (25+) Men’s Championship is entered.
He spoke with Golf Saskatchewan following the two impressive finishes in the Bridge City.
More than junior golf at MJT stop at Tor Hill Golf Course
It was an extra special stop on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) at Tor Hill Golf Course on June 28 and 29 in northwest Regina.
Not only did over 85 top juniors from Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba travel to the Queen City for the 36-hole event, Carla and Trever Crozier were on hand to welcome the players at registration. The Crozier’s daughter Hallie played her first MJT event at Tor Hill several years ago before building an impressive resume leading to college at Ferris State University. Hallie has since suffered a brain injury. The family wanted to be at the event to welcome the players and thank many for the support since Hallie’s incident down in Michigan last year.
On the course, two junior women stole the show and added titles to their season.

Youran Zhu of Saskatoon won her third event of the year taking the under-15 women’s age group by nine shots over Alyxa Melsted of Wynyard. The two have competed hard against each other all season, Melsted has one win in Swift Current this season, Zhu’s only second place showing.
Newcomer Callie Glover is playing well too, the Foam lake golfer was third.

Tayla Perry of Regina won the women’s 15 to 19 age group with an impressive showing of 72 and 77, 10 shots better than Yuna Lee, also of the Queen City.
Warman player Tina Liu was in the hunt as well placing third at 164.

The under-13 men’s division was won by Hudson Deibert of Regina. The 10-year-old carded rounds of 74 and 79. His 153 was 18 strokes better than second place golfer Cohen Bridge of Corman Park.

Rising star Jun Lee has another title. The Royal Regina Golf Club shooter held off 21 other competitors to win the under-15 men’s age group in a playoff over Austin Nesbitt of Pilot Butte. Each player had a score of 144 after 36 holes.
Melville’s Keaton Kreklewich placed third with rounds of 79 and 74.
The champions in the under-17 and under-19 men’s age groups were won by a brother duo from Strathmore, Alta.
Connor Riou won the under-17 division with a score of 150, just three shots better than Humboldt’s Tryce Wallin and Kolton Spenst of Saskatoon.
Parker Riou won the men’s overall competition with a score of 145 (73,72).
Hudson Heistad of Avonlea was second in the under-19 category at 155. Isaac Shanks of Regina rounded out the podium in the junior age bracket.

The next Order of Merit Tour on the junior circuit is the Notah Begay III Saskatchewan Championship at Dakota Dunes Golf Links starting on Wednesday, June 2.
