The Golf Saskatchewan event schedule has concluded with the Royal Regina Golf Club (RRGC) dethroning Wascana Country Club (WCC) at the Champions Cup in Rosthern on Sept. 26.
The Wascana team has won the team event portion at the one-day championship for the first four years, but on Saturday at Valley Regional Park Golf Club, the Royal outlasted eight other clubs to take the team title for the first time.
The Royal earned 147 Stableford points to claim the title, Valley Regional was second at 140. Valleyview Delisle Golf and Country Club was third.
The win was truly a team effort, in the eight categories (junior, amateur, senior, super-senior) only Alex Schmidt was a winner as she claimed the amateur women’s title, but the group accumulated enough points to win the championship that promotes club participation and club championships at local levels.
