It’s been quite a week for Ayden Melsted on the golf course.
A few days after shooting a course tying record (story to follow) at his home course in Wynyard, the 16-year-old posted the lowest 36 hole score in Saskatchewan Maple Leaf Junior Tour (MJT) history. Longtime Tournament Jeff Chambers said Melsted’s amazing two day score of 131 stood out over at least two decades.
“I mentioned to the crowd when I did the prize presentation that I’ve been doing this for 21 years and I never remember a score being that low. Especially to follow it up, so for a combined score, as far as I know that’s the lowest that we’ve ever had in Saskatchewan,” he said via text.
Melsted opened the event with a 9-under par, 63 and followed that with a 68. He was six shots lower than Shae Maunula of North Battleford to win the under-17 age group and the overall boys championship.

Oliver Matyczuk won the under-19 age group and was third overall.

Alyxa Melsted continued to collect MJT prizes after winning the under-15 women’s age division. That’s the Wynyard product’s fifth victory of the year.
Clara Zhang from Saskatoon was second at 163, six shots off Melsted’s scores of 81 and 76.

Tayla Perry is the champion of the 15 to 19 year-old women’s division. The Regina resident signed for rounds of 78 and 73.
Miranda Merriman from Air Ronge was second (169) and Arwen Mosher of Saskatoon placed third at 170.

Cohen Bridge of Saskatoon outdueled Regina shooter Hudson Deibert to win the under-13 men’s age group.
The Willows Club junior carded back-to-back par rounds to edge Deibert by one shot over 36 holes.

In the under-15 men’s age group Keaton Kreklewich’s impressive season continued with another victory.
The Melville, Sask. player and reigning Saskatchewan under-15 champion won his third MJT event beating Jace Munro of Swift Current, Sask. by nine shots. Kreklewich posted rounds of 68 and 69, Munro shot 71 and 75.
