Six senior provincial champions were crowned at the Meadow Lake Golf Club on Sunday evening.
Kim Walker won her sixth Saskatchewan Senior Women’s Championship. She will lead Team Saskatchewan into the Canadian Senior Women’s Championship at Rocky Mountain House, Alta. later this season. Joining Walker will be Fort Qu’Appelle resident Marcy Johnson and Swift Current’s Kathy Hopfner.

Hopfner won her second straight Mae Balmos (60+) championship, she also edged Saskatoon’s Heather Torrie in a one hole playoff to also earn a trip to the national championship.

Jim Born. Jr. has his first Saskatchewan championship since the Lloydminster. Alta. product won the mid-amateur in 2009.
Born held off Brad Phelps and Scott Allan on the final day Sunday to claim the over 55 championship and the opportunity to travel to Winnipeg for the Canadian Senior Men’s Championship at Niakwa Country Club.
Brent Wotypka of Swift Current will join Phelps and Allan at the national event after claiming the over-65 super-senior category.

In the Legends (75+) age category, Biggar, Sask. player Keith Silvernagle shot a remarkable 75 on the final day to go one under his age and claim the trophy, the first of his impressive amateur career.

Lastly, Chris Reid of Meadow Lake won the Men’s Mid-Masters (40+) Championship to earn a spot at the Canadian Mid-Amateur Championship in Brantford, Ont. Aug. 18 – 21.

Reid used his hometown advantage to post a remarkable 54-hole score of 6-under par, 210 while serving as a key driver of the event being hosted by the club.
The championships were the first time in Meadow Lake for Golf Saskatchewan since 2005.
