Freshly minted senior Jim Born of Lloydminster is new leader of the Saskatchewan championships in Meadow Lake.
Born has shot even par 72 in back to back rounds and will go into Sunday’s championship round with a four shot lead over a trio of golfers at the Meadow Lake Golf Club. Shawn Strelau, Brad Phelps, and Scott Allan are tied at 4-over par.
Reigning champion Rick Hallberg is in fifth place. Brent Wotypka will round out the second last group at 7-over par, one back of Hallberg of Weyburn.

Another Lloydminster competitor sees himself on the top of the leaderboard. Chris Wunder shot 2-under par 70 on Saturday to move into a tie at 3-under par with Spiritwood’s Todd Turgeon in the 40-and-over category. Turgeon has won the division the last three years.
Chris Reid, the president of the Meadow Lake Golf Club and large part of the host committee sits in third at 2-under par going into the final round.
Born is competing in that event too, he’s fourth.
The winner of the mid-masters (40+) category gets a spot at the Canadian Mid-Amateur (25+) Championship later this year.

In the Saskatchewan Senior Women’s Championships, defending champion Kim Walker extended her lead. After having an 11 shot lead after round one, the Regina product is now up by 24 shots going into the final 18 holes.
Marcy Johnson of Fort Qu’Appelle sits in second, Heather Torrie from Saskatoon is third.
