Kim Walker of Regina has started her quest for a fifth Saskatchewan Senior Women’s Championship opening an 11-shot lead after day one of provincials in Meadow Lake.
The Wascana Country Club member and reigning senior (50+) champion shot 6-over par, 76 on Friday at Meadow Lake Golf Club in round one of three. Fort Qu’Appelle’s Marcy Johnson is second at 17-over par. In third at 19-over par is Heather Torrie of Saskatoon.

The leader of the men’s senior (55+) championship is Strathmore, Alta. golfer Shawn Wilson. Wilson owns ranchland in the Leross, Sask. area and competes in Saskatchewan when he can. The 56-year-old was the lone senior competitor to shoot under par, he signed for a 2-under par, 70 in round one.
Lloydminster golfer Jim Born stayed even par with a 72, he sits alone in second. Four players are tied at 2-over par, 74 including reigning champion Rick Hallberg.

In the men’s mid-master (40+) category, local Chris Reid went low with a 3-under par, 69 to take the lead after 18 holes of the 54-hole championship.
He is one shot ahead of three-time reigning champion Todd Turgeon (Spiritwood, Sask.) and Wilson.
Lloydminster’s Chris Wunder was the only other competitor in the field of 85 to shoot under par, he posted a 1-under par, 71.
Tied for fifth is Born and with Fort McKay, Alta. resident Joldy Laliberte at even par.
Round two will begin at 7 a.m. on Saturday.
