Joergen Viken of Regina posted the lowest score in round two and vaulted himself to the top of the leaderboard at the Saskatchewan Amateur and Mid-Amateur Men’s Championships at Golf Kenosee.
After shooting an even par opening round, Viken went 3-under par, 69 on Wednesday moving into a tie with Mex Regier and first round leader Ethan Hunter in the chase for the amateur title.
Regier shot 2-under par to go along with a 70 in round one, Hunter shot 1-over par, 73 Wednesday to remain with at least a tie for the lead.
The Mid-Amateur Championship for players over 25 years of age is also led by Viken, who plays at the Royal Regina Golf Club. Andrew Funk of Edmonton sits in second place at 2-under par, Carson Harcourt is third at 1-under par, first round co-leader Jesse Gibson is still in the hunt at even par.
Round three will begin at 7 a.m. on Thursday. The mid-amateur portion of the tournament will conclude Thursday after round three. The amateur championship is a 72-hole event with a cut after day three.

A week after winning the Saskatchewan Junior Women’s Championship, Saskatoon’s Grace Odnokon has put herself into position to repeat that performance at Golf Kenosee.
The 16-year-old shot 1-over par, 74 on Wednesday to pull into a tie with first round leader Alex Schmidt of Regina. She shot 5-over par, 78 in round two setting up a great final group that will include defending champion Chloe Wills. The Kyle, Sask. resident sits five shots back of the lead.
Schmidt leads the women’s mid-amateur division by 21 shots.
Both women’s championships will also conclude on Thursday afternoon.
