Alex Scmidt of Regina is the leader of both the Saskatchewan Women’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur (25+) Championships after day one of the event at Golf Kenosee.
The Royal Regina Golf Club member shot an opening round of 4-over par, 77 on Tuesday to earn a four shot lead on Saskatchewan junior champion Grace Odnokon of Saskatoon.
Defending champion Chloe Wills of Kyle, Sask. sits in third at 9-over par, 82.
Kim Walker of Regina is second in the mid-amateur age group, eight shots behind Schmidt, she is in fourth overall. Rounding out the top five is Saskatchewan under-15 champion Natalie Maunula of North Battleford, she’s at 13-over par, 86.
Round two f the three day, 54 hole championships will be played Wednesday afternoon at Kenosee Lake.

In the men’s championships two Saskatoon golfers took the lead after the first 18 holes.
Ethan Hunter and Jesse Gibson each posted rounds of 4-under par, 68 on Tuesday.
Gibson leads the over-25 category outright, one shot ahead of Regina’s Carson Harcourt, who grew up at nearby Kipling, Sask.
Harcourt sits third overall, Carter Bell of Saskatoon is tied for fourth with Edmonton golfer Andrew Funk at 2-under par, 70.
There is a five-way tie for sixth.
Round two of the men’s championships will begin at 7 a.m. on Wednesday.
The mid-amateur will conclude on Thursday, the men’s amateur championship will be finalized on Friday.
