Schmidt wins first Regina Ladies Open; over 70 players compete at Tor Hill and Wascana

Alex Schmidt now has a Regina Ladies Open championship to be added to her impressive resume.

Already with several collegiate wins, the Regina resident can chalk up her first amateur win in her home province. The Royal Regina Golf Club member shot 76 in round one at Tor Hill Golf Course on Monday and followed that up with a career tournament low of 69 at Wascana Country Club on Tuesday to win the event by nine shots.

Kim Walker of Regina was second overall and the top senior finisher at 154 with two rounds of 77. Tayla Perry also had a great showing placing third, the 17-year-old Reginian opened the 36 hole event with an 82 before shooting the second lowest round of the long running championship in round two, a 74.

Lorie Boyle (Moose Jaw) was fourth overall and claimed the super senior category, Rosetown product Sue Skinner rounded out the top five.
