Odnokon and Franklin claim overall junior championships

Grace Odnokon and Aricin Franklin are on top of the province in junior golf after claiming the overall championships in Lloydminster on Thursday.

Odnokon, 15, shot 22-over par 238 to win the overall championship by six shots over Regina’s Tayla Perry. Odnokon also claimed the under-17 championship.

The under-15 women’s champion was Yoyo Zhu of Saskatoon. The 14-year-old was sixth overall as well with a 54-hole score of 41-over par 257.

In the junior men’s championships Aricin Franklin avoided heartbreak this year and won the championship by two strokes over Ethan Hunter. Last year’s winner Ryan Mosher was third overall.

In the under-15 men’s category Austin Nesbitt of Pilot Butte battled from behind to overtake Melville golfer Keaton Kreklewich and win the division by a stroke. Nesbitt shot 9-over par 225 through three rounds at the Lloydminster Golf and Curling Centre.

Hudson Deibert of Regina claimed the under-13 men’s division with a 54-hole score of 29-over par 244.
